
Irvin Scott, a faculty member at Harvard Graduate School of Education since 2016, focuses on educational leadership and teaches in the School Leadership and Doctor of Education Leadership Programs. Before Harvard, he spent five years as deputy director for K–12 education at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where he oversaw $300 million in initiatives to improve teacher recruitment, development, and recognition, launched the Elevating and Celebrating Effective Teaching and Teachers (#ECET2) movement, and built partnerships with faith-based organizations to support underserved communities. Previously, Scott served as chief academic officer for Boston Public Schools, following more than 20 years as a teacher, principal, and district leader. A graduate of Millersville University and Temple University, he also earned master’s and doctoral degrees from Harvard, and has led major leadership development and school reform efforts throughout his career.
